EID KI RAUNAK

Going up on the terrace at maghrib after breaking fast on the last day of Ramadan and anxiously searching for moon...the moon which was very hard to spot in such a big sky as it was of the size of a very very thin nail...

This is how our EID festivities used to begin during our childhood days...

I still remember that excitement of just breaking the fast with dates and water and rushing upstairs with my family to look for moon and then standing their minutely searching the sky for moon...and then asking all the neighbors who like us were also on their terrace's to look for moon..

"CHAAND DIKHA KYA?...KYA LGTA HAI KAL EID HOGI?"

And then we would wait for the announcement from the MARKAZI CHAAND COMMITTEE..about the sighting of the moon...Once the moon sighting was declared we would begin the preparation with lots of zor and shor....

Ek taraf pateela chadh jata tha jispe pakta tha kimami siwain ka sheera.....which needs to be cooked alot to attain the desired consistency...doosri taraf chhole...urad ki daal..imli bhigai jaati thi for chhole..dahi bade and tangy imli ki chatni....or phir chadta tha shaami kabab ka paste and kate jaate the mewe (dry fruits)..to put in siwaiyan and sheer khurma....and last mein phir hoti thi biryani ki tayyari....Ye to  hote the kitchen ke kaam jo krti thi mummy n phuphu ...n cutting waghairah aati thi mere or meri behnon ke hisse mein...

Almost poora ratjaga wala mahaul hota tha...Everyone's clothes were taken out ..ironed and arranged properly..and ladies ke to bangles jewellery ka bhi intezaam hota tha..and the most important work henna application aata tha mere under..as i am an expert in henna...(smiling)...

I still remember sab ke mehndi lagene ke baad i used to get so much tired ki apne mehndi tal jaati thi doosri eid ke liye...:)

Ghar ki safai...nayi bedsheet..sofa cover cushion covers...pillow cases...ye sb arrange krne ka kaam hota the early morning fajr ki namaz se pehle.
Sab arrange krne ke baad namaz padh ke shuru hota tha nahane ka silsila ...as we had one bathroom in our house to sb ka number lagta the..sbse pehle papa and bhaiya ka hota the kyunki unhein namaz ke liye msjid jaana hota tha..then baari aati thi aldies of the house..then we were like kaun pehle jaayega....and sabse last me phuphu and mummy nahati thin ofcourse unlo poori cooking krke and set krke mauka milta tha...

India mein or i think sbhi Indian subcontinent's ki countries mein ladies don't go to masjid ..so  hum ghar pe hi namaz padhte the..and then hota tha silsila sbke yahan aane jaane ka...or which is called EID MILAN..

Uska  bhi ek pattern tha pehle saare mard hazraat namaz ada karke masjid ke pass wale ghar se shuru krke sbhi gharon mein jaate the eid milne...and almost aadha din nikal jaata tha ....Or shaam se shuru hota tha auraton ka eid milna....and bachche to poore din hi enjoy krte the..wo ek din aisa hota tha jis din we were allowed to go out and enjoy..and best part was eidi collection..sb eidi collect krke counting krte the ki sbse zada eidi kisko mili...Kya khoobsurat din the wo bhi...

Isi tarah guzar jata tha poora din sb jagah ghoom ke..mil ke..siwaiyan..n delicacies kha ke..at the end itne tired hote the ki lgta tha bs ab sojayein..
Apne yahan to do teen..infact ek hafta eid celebration chalti hai...

Bohat khoobsurat and haseen yaadein hain ye bachpan ki....I still miss that eid..na wo waqt raha na wo zamane or hum bade hogaye and zimmedaariyaan aagain...

Har waqt ki apni khoobsurati hai..apni raunak hai...

From last six years i am celebrating eid away from family here in States..for first two years i felt bored and missed my family...

So when AREEB was born i decided to make EID fun for him so that like i have so beautiful memories of my childhood celebration...he will have his childhood eid memories too in sha allah...

We are three people here..ME,AREEB & MY HUSBAND..so hum chaandraat wale din krte hain clean up..and prep for siwaiyan..chhole...especially biryani..coz Areeb loves biryani..he is a die hard fan of BIRYANI....

Then we do some eid decoration at our house for some fun eid vibes...

Change the sheets..pillowcovers..cushion covers...ready our clothes..

And then on the day of eid we go to MASJID...for eid namaz..ma sha allah bohat raunak hoti hain..you meet so many people from so many different places around the world..some are from INDIA..some from PAKISTAN...from MOROCCO..AUSTRALIA..BANGLADESH...UNITED KINGDOM...UAE..AFRICA..etc..ma sha allah its so beautiful...to see so many people from every corner of the world praying and celebrating Eid under one roof....then after NAMAZ we are served breakfast...and then people click pictures..enjoy..visit each other...and just hang out with family and friends..

The following Friday i invite all my friends for EID party where we have lots of fun..and the highlight of the party is KIMAMI and SHEER KHURMA....

SO that is how our EID is like here in STATES...i still miss my family....but i am happy here too..i am happy that i am helping AREEB make some beautiful memories for him to remember when he grows up in sha allah...

With changing times everything changes except... we should hold on to our traditions and culture..

So that is all from me today...hope you guys had fun reading my EID BLOG....
